Est. stipend: $60,000 per annum

Vacation/holiday leave: 3 weeks of vacation

Education/conference leave: Stipend provided to support attendance at a hospital pharmacy conference (e.g., Together Conference in Banff). Residents also attend the Manitoba Saskatchewan Management Seminar and the CSHP SK Branch AGM, when possible.

Program highlights: Competency based program which encourages residents to develop knowledge, skills and values required to excel as a practitioner. In striving towards provision of patient-focused care, emphasis is placed on identifying, solving, and preventing drug-therapy problems. Experiential learning environment using practitioner role models is the primary method of education. This philosophy promotes development of competent, progressive practitioners and nurtures future leaders. Twelve month program includes series of mandatory and elective rotations. Original research project selected by resident must be completed. Supported by contemporary pharmacy services at 4 acute care hospitals, as well as ambulatory and home care settings.

Core Rotations:

  • Drug Distribution (4 weeks)
  • Direct Patient Care Skills/Drug Information/Safety rotation (4 weeks)
  • Adult medicine or Pediatrics: to complete three, 4 week rotations in primary area over the course of the year (early, mid and capstone) and 6 week rotation in secondary area
  • IPPE preceptorship (4 weeks)
  • Leadership (longitudinal)
  • Critical Care (4-5 weeks)

Adult elective rotations:

  • Accountable Care Unit - 4 weeks
  • Anticoagulation Management Services – 3-4 weeks
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Diseases – 3-4 weeks
  • Cardiology – 4 weeks
  • Critical Care – 4 weeks
  • Emergency – 4 weeks
  • Home Care – 3 weeks
  • Mental Health – 4 weeks
  • Nephrology – 4 weeks
  • Oncology - 4 weeks
  • Positive Living Program - 4 weeks

Minimum required credentials: Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy

Eligibility for a Saskatchewan Health Authority – Saskatoon area residency position requires candidates to hold a valid Practicing Pharmacist License from a Canadian Pharmacy Regulatory body at the time of application and be in possession of a Practicing Pharmacist License from the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals (SCPP) on the first day of the residency program or be in possession of a Conditional License from SCPP on the first day of the residency program as per SCPP bylaws.
