Minimum required credentials:
The Antimicrobial Stewardship Advanced Pharmacy Residency will consider applicants who express an interest in and commitment to advanced practice in the area of Antimicrobial Stewardship. The applicant will be a registered pharmacist with one of the following:

Doctor of Pharmacy as a second professional degree (i.e. post-baccalaureate), or Master’s degree in advanced pharmacotherapy, or Completion (or due to complete) an accredited year-1 Pharmacy residency.


Elective Rotations: may be arranged upon the interest of the resident.

Activities of the residency will also be tailored based on the needs and interests of the resident.

Antimicrobial Stewardship in Medical/Surgical Patients Antimicrobial Stewardship in Critical Care Antimicrobial Stewardship in Oncology Patients Research
  • Research in a relevant area of Antimicrobial Stewardship practice

The option of combining the residency with a Master’s degree can be considered based on the interest of the applicant.

The program will consist of:

Clinical teaching to increase the pharmacist’s knowledge of infectious diseases and optimal antimicrobial use Practical clinical experience on the prospective-audit-and-feedback service optimizing antimicrobials in several patient populations including: Critical Care, Medical/Surgical and Oncology patients


Program Highlights: Formal institutional Antimicrobial Stewardship programs have become a well-recognized strategy to mitigate the over-use and misuse of antibiotics that contribute to increasing resistance rates, C.difficile infections and adverse drug reactions. This year-2 residency program is designed to provide pharmacists with the formal training necessary to become a leader in Antimicrobial Stewardship, by enhancing their clinical knowledge of antimicrobial management, providing them with the clinical skills to change practice and expose them to methods for implementing and evaluating Antimicrobial Stewardship initiatives.

The goals of this program are:

To enhance individual skills and confidence so that the successful applicant will be a competent practitioner in antimicrobial stewardship, and will have the skills to provide leadership in this area To develop clinical teaching skills to become an effective educator to multidisciplinary staff on topics related to Antimicrobial Stewardship To develop project management and research skills through the completion of a research project relevant to Antimicrobial Stewardship
