Vacation/Holiday Leave: 2 weeks + 5 "flex days"

Education/Conference Leave: 1 week - Residents attend the Residents’ Clinical Conference, CSHP Professional Practice Conference, Ottawa Patient Safety Conference.  Additional conferences may be offered based on availability and learning needs. 

Program Highlights:

This program is designed to provide residents with a strong foundation in hospital pharmacy practice through a patient-centered approach.  Major emphasis is placed on key areas  of hospital pharmacy, including clinical pharmacy, drug information, clinical pharmacokinetics, and clinical toxicology.  Residents are exposed to a broad range of medication related problems, including therapeutic, pharmaceutic, administrative and toxicological issues, and are expected to contribute to their assessment and resolution. A major focus of the program is effective communication, documentation and application of therapeutic drug knowledge within the clinical setting.  

This program is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.  Emphasis is placed on self-reflection, and residents are encouraged to identify and tailor individual learning goals for each clinical rotation. Preceptors, mentors, and program leaders work collaboratively with residents to support their professional development, well-being, and success throughout the residency year. 

Our goal is to develop independent, confident, competent, and compassionate pharmacy leaders who are equipped to become leaders in the professional and trusted members of any pharmacy team. 

Required Rotations:

  • General Medicine (5 + 2 weeks at the end of the residency for the "capstone rotation")
  • Intensive Care Unit (4 weeks)
  • Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobial Stewardship (4 weeks)
  • Selective Oncology Rotation: Hematology or Transplant and Cellular Therapy or Medical Day Care Unit or Medical Oncology (4 weeks)
  • Selective: Cardiology or Nephrology (4 weeks)
  • Drug Distribution (3 weeks)
  • Drug Information (3 weeks)
  • Teaching/Preceptorship Rotation (1-3 weeks - variable)*
  • Elective Rotation (2 elective rotations that are 4 weeks each) 
  • Clinical orientation (3 weeks)
  • Project (8 weeks)
  • Administration (1 week)

Required Credentials: Completion of entry-to-practice pharmacy degree

Minimum Required Credentials: Eligibility for licensing as a pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists; eligibility to work in Canada.
