Program - General/Oncology-Focus

Type: General/Oncology Focus

Designed to develop self-directed practitioners with advanced skills in practice of pharmaceutical care. The program offers a wide variety of clinical rotations across all four UHN sites with nationally recognized preceptors. The residency rotation schedule is tailored to account for the candidate’s prior learning and personal objectives. All residents are paired with an experienced mentor to help navigate the residency year. Residents will have the opportunity to participate in a number of different teaching activities including co-precepting a junior learner.  Residency projects are a high priority for UHN pharmacy and project team members are experienced researchers. Many residency projects are published in international peer reviewed journals. The oncology-focused program offers the resident to develop the skills to be an independent oncology pharmacy practitioner and as such most of the rotations are based at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

Minimum required credentials: BScPhm/PharmD

The current healthcare environment in Canada demands that the primary care system adopt an interprofessional model of care, creating a unique opportunity for pharmacists.  This residency is a 52 week post-graduate training program accredited by the Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Board.  It will provide the resident with experience in a variety of ambulatory care settings.  It is designed to prepare the graduates for successful careers as independent practitioners of Pharmaceutical Care in an ambulatory care setting.  The majority of the resident's time will be spent in the Toronto Western Family Health Team with special attention on the needs of the aging population, new immigrants, children and women.  The clinic is comprised of an inter-professional team including dieticians, chiropody, nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physicians, physiotherapists, and social workers.  Some required and elective rotations can be completed longitudinally over a period of time.  The resident will have the opportunity to lead a research project in Primary Care.  Opportunities to enhance presentation and communication skills, become involved with teaching, research and other scholarly activities will be available.
