  • No other requirements other than an interview (in person or virtual)

Estimated Stipend: $50,000/year

Minimum Required Credentials: BSc(Pharm), eligibility for licensure in British Columbia at program start, must be legally entitled to work in Canada, must be fluent in English

Program Highlights:

The Island Health Pharmacy Practice Residency develops future clinicians and leaders through a high quality, challenging, experiential training program delivered by skilled clinician preceptors in an inter-professional, patient-centered environment. They focus on clinical practice, but also integrate skill development in leadership, project management, and research through a competency-based approach to learning.

Our program features four POD sites in Victoria (2), Nanaimo (1) and Comox/Campbell River (1).

Acute care sites include a regional cardiac/vascular center with a large cardiac electrophysiology program, a large regional nephrology program, a large regional pediatrics/obstetrics program, a neurosciences and trauma center.  Our Health Authority has 12 primary care clinics, some of which host a primary care rotation.

We have a large first nations population within our Health Authority and are able to offer an indigenous health rotation.

Core Rotations: 

  • Clinical Orientation (2 weeks)
  • General Medicine (4 weeks)
  • Precepting (4 weeks)
  • Non-Direct Patient Care Rotations (3 weeks) includes toxicology, med safety, med use management and pharmacy informatics, academic detailing, management leadership rotation.
  • Critical Care Rotation (4 weeks)
  • Medication Use Systems Rotation (3 weeks) - Drug Distribution & Sterile Products
  • Infectious Disease & Antimicrobial Stewardship (4 weeks)

Elective Rotations: 

We have 22 elective rotations which include: cardiology, nephrology, psychiatry, pediatrics, perinatology, emergency medicine, neurology, surgery, primary care, restorative health, indigenous, internal medicine CTU, indigenous health, virtual care clinic, home IV, community health services.

Required Credentials: Entry to practice pharmacy degree: BSc.(Pharm) or Pharm.D.

Other Eligibility Requirements: Canadian Citizen or permanent resident, authorized to work in Canada by Government of Canada, Eligible for Pharmacy License by the College of Pharmacists of BC, Fluency in English
